Charles W. Spillman
Charles W. Spillman was born on 12 Oct 1823 in Culpeper County, Virginia.3,4,5,6,7,8 He is commonly accepted as a son of Henry Spillman and Ann Tapp of Culpeper County and later Shanendoah County in Virginia, however this researcher is not yet in possession of any documentation that would prove the claim. If correct, it would tie these Spillmans into the Culpeper Germana colony outlined in the Spillman Papers.
Charles W. Spillman lived in Kentucky between 1828 and 1850 where he worked as a stonemason in addition to farming his land.3 He married first Harriett Rowlett circa 1843 in Kentucky.9 Their sons Thomas and Wesley were born here, the latter just before the family relocated. He moved to Worth County, Missouri, in 1851 and spent the rest of his life in this sparsely-populated farming region.3,10 Here were born daughter Annaliza and son William Harvey. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist church.3 Charles was widowed when Harriett died of consumption in Sep 1859 in near McFall, Gentry County, Missouri, along with a daughter named Subit (or possibly Submit?).3,11,12 In 1860Charles W. Spillman married second Susan Walker. She bore him a dozen children over the next 18 years, ten of whom survived.3 Charles's second wife, Susan Walker, died on 9 Apr 1891.13 Charles W. died in near Grant City, Missouri, on 21 Feb 1908 at 84.3

This history dates the move to 1850, but the September 1850 census still has the family in Trimble County, Kentucky, and it seems unlikely that Charles and Harriet would have undertaken such a journey late in the year with an infant son..
